Ride Report for Saturday, July 15, 2006

The Red Knights TN 2 was proud to be invited to participate in the  Maryville Firefighters Association Local #4053 Third Annual Bike-A-Day for MDA. Several members turned out for this event in spite of damp roads from rain the night before. The day turned out to be beautiful before the ride pulled out. Local #4053 had MDA Ambassador, Brendan Smelser, as "Grand Marshal". He traded his seat in the Mercedes convertable for a passenger's seat on a motorcycle for the last leg of the ride. The event also featured great food, a chance to visit with old friends and meet new ones and enough door prizes to insure that no one left empty handed. For those that missed it, I recommend you make plans to attend next year. Lots of fun and more than that it benefits a good cause. All proceeds from the event went to the MDA. Red Knight Daniel Ellis is very active in the organization of this event and he can give you more info if you are interested. below are a few photos from the ride.

Ride Report for Saturday, August 26, 2006

We headed for the Foothills Parkway around 9:00 A.M. The morning was a little cool but not uncomfortable. The Foothills Parkway was beautiful.  We stopped in Vonore for fuel and a short break then headed for Tellico Plains.  We went east on 68 to the start of the Cherohala Skyway and had lunch at the Bistro By The River on the banks of the Tellico River (the Sunday, August 27, 2006 issue if the News Sentinel had an article about it in the travel section). On the way there Eagle-eye Walter DeCarlo spotted some Hedge Art that we just had to photograph on our way out. (see photos below) After lunch we visited the Charles Hall Museum in Tellico Plains. The museum has a large collection of guns as well as other memorabilia from days gone by such as telephones, tools, appliances and toys.  There is also a large collection of Indian artifacts found locally.  From the museum we headed west on Hwy 68 to Hwy 27 and returned home through Rockwood, Harriman and Oliver Springs.  We had a great time and invite everyone to join us on our next ride. (See Upcoming Events page on this website for schedules.)
